It is extremely complex as consumers to be informed on the environmental impacts of products we buy from brands. They, themselves frequently do not even realize how harmful their supplying factories are.

A plan has been elaborated by The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) to keep a close watch on the pollution generated by Chinese factories. The map publishes production sites’ pollution levels almost in real time. This technology also provides information on the supply chains of international brands such as Esprit, Gap, Inditex, New Balance, Puma and Target.

The data comes from a project of the Chinese government who is tackling the pollution issues in the country. The creators of this project are expecting a development in other countries, and planning to make it understandable for everybody.
