The garment traceability project developed by ITC and UNECE cited as a relevant tool by the European Commission to enable companies to fulfill their due diligence obligations

On the 23 February 2022, the European Commission has adopted a proposal for a Directive on corporate sustainability due diligence.

The proposal aims to foster sustainable and responsible corporate behaviour throughout global value chains. Companies will be required to identify and, where necessary, prevent, end or mitigate adverse impacts of their activities on human rights and on the environment.

Many companies already put in place corporate sustainability tools. However, research shows that when companies take voluntary action, they focus mainly on the first link in the supply chains while human rights and environmental harm occurs more often further down in the value chain.

The garment traceability project developed by ITC and UNECE is cited by the European Commission as an action whose objectives and results support the implementation of the directive. For more informations on the project, you can visit this link on our website.
